Championship Final
Date: 19th January 2008
John Fack regained the BTRDA® Gold Star Sporting Trials championship twenty-three years since last winning in extremely challenging conditions, which tested all of a drivers skills to the limit. Meanwhile the Silver Star category was very closely contested with the top six competitors covered by just twelve marks with Mark Milne winning.
Lancashire and Cheshire Car Club hosted the BTRDA® Grand Final near Longnor with Duncan Stephens looking to retain his title. Stephens led after the first round but fell away as the day progressed with reigning MSA Champion Fack gradually building a comfortable lead from Roland Uglow. Uglow had a traumatic journey up from Cornwall blowing the engine on his van but settled in producing some very subtle climbs ahead of a fearless and very determined Mervyn McKinney who equalled his result of twelve months in third. Crosslé cars filled the top three but Steve Courts excelled in his thirty year old Facksimile to gain fourth. Ian Wright debuted his new Sherpa steadily improving as the day went along eventually finishing an encouraging eighth.
Meanwhile the Gold Star was only part of the event with the Silver Star for the second half of qualifying competitors with twenty entrants. Mark Milne gradually built a small but decisive lead to win. Jason Daniel and Jerome Fack had a day-long battle inwhich one led then the other and eventually tied with each other, and on the tie-break Daniel finished second in the category. Monty Peters has recently returned to the sport and gained fourth just ahead of Simon Gracey and Andy Wilks who also tied. David Rance won the award for the highest placed debutant in the trial, completing his maiden years trialling.
John Fack is now dominating the sport with winning back-to-back MSA Championship and now has the full set with the BTRDA® Gold Star title to his name at the same time.
