Rennison moves ahead
Added: 20th June 2007
This year’s BTRDA® Clubmans Rallycross Championship appears to be following what is an established pattern with the leading Junior and Stock Hatch racers duelling for the overall title. Two years ago it was Andrew Jordan and Rodney Green, last year Ben Rennison and Steve Heppenstall who disputed the title lead. Each of those battles was won by the Stock Hatch driver, Green and Heppenstall.Over the first two rounds of this year’s championship, Stock Hatch man Dave Baines and Junior Rennison were level, each winning their respective A final. At Pembrey in round three Rennison maintained his 100% winning record while Baines was beaten to Stock Hatch glory by Ash Simpson and dropped three points to Rennison in the overall points battle.
The BTRDA® Championship runs over nine events so there is a long way to go yet, but if Rennison can win he’ll be the first Junior to beat adult racers and claim an overall championship title.
There’s an intriguing battle brewing between brothers Russ and Ash Simpson, currently placed fourth and fifth overall. The SuperModified runners do not yet feature among the top five overall places as none has scored in all three events. Nick McAdden leads the way on 60 points, three ahead of class champ Asa Fatchett with David Brown and Gary Pusey closing in fast.
