2006 BTRDA® Gold Star® Champions

Close finish in club land

Added: 11th October 2007

The destiny of the BTRDA® Clubmans Rallycross Championship will be decided between Ben Rennison and Ash Simpson in today’s event at Croft.

There are nine events in the BTRDA® championship and drivers count their best eight scores. Entering the final round, Rennison leads the scoring and is five points ahead of Simpson. However, taking dropped scores into account at this stage, gives Simpson the advantage by three points. It is straight race between the pair, except that they will not meet on the track. Rennison is in the Junior class and Simpson in Stock Hatch.
Assuming that both get through the heats and make to their respective A finals, first or second place will win it for Simpson, irrespective of Rennison’s result. Rennison, meanwhile, must finish first or second in order to add to his points total. If Rennison is second and Simpson fourth or lower, he will be champion; likewise if he wins with Simpson third or lower. Neither, however, is likely to be doing the maths as they race. Simpson’s hand appears slightly stronger but the best course of action for both is to go for the win.
