The Simpsons double bill
Added: 11th October 2007
The wonderful British summer had an influence on a BRC event for the second time this year when poor visibility caused the cancellation of the finals for the BTRDA® section of the event at Knockhill where persistent rain and low cloud compromised safety. This did not worry brothers Ash and Russ Simpson who, while they would probably rather have raced for their wins, collected victories in the Stock Hatch and Junior classes respectively. The York-based pair are now firmly established in the overall top five of the championship, Ash’s fourth consecutive Stock Hatch win having brought him to within just two points of class leader Dave Baines. The top three Stock Hatch racers are inside the top five overall, Gary Johnston holding down fifth place with his Peugeot 205 GTi.
The younger of the Simpson brothers, Russ is not only fighting a family battle against Ash, but chasing Ben Rennison, the leading Junior driver in the championship. Rennison started the year with four event wins and has added a brace of second places in the last two events to maintain his points lead.
The championship now moves on to events at Blyton and Croft in October and appears set for a close finish. SuperModified racers do not feature in the overall ranking, but the class battle is close between champ Asa Fatchett and returning racer Gary Pusey.
