Rennison still ahead
Added: 11th October 2007
The overall winner in the BTRDA® Clubmans Championship is quite simply the driver with highest points score. It doesn’t matter which class he or she races in, the driver with the most points at the end of the year is champion. Over the last two years this has produced closely fought battles between the leading drivers in the Stock Hatch and Junior classes. In each season, however, it has been the Stock Hatch driver that prospered, Rodney Green and Steve Heppenstall emerging as champions. This year we have a similar situation with Ben Rennison and Dave Baines leading the championship battle. Over the first two rounds there was no splitting the pair, but in rounds three and four Rennison continued his winning ways in the Junior category while Stock Hatch racer Baines was twice beaten by Ash Simpson. Rennison’s winning run was eventually brought to an end in round five at Pembrey where Conor Flynn took his first victory. It remains close at the top, six points splitting the lead duo with the Simpson brothers looking on in third and fourth places and just a handful of places ahead of Gary Johnston.
SuperModified racers do not yet feature among the leading places but class leader Dave Brown is edging closer to the top five and being chased by Gary Pusey who has won all three events in which he has finished having returned to Rallycross from the short ovals.
