Grand Final Trial

Garry Preston won his first BTRDA Gold Star Car Trial Championship after thirty three years of trying at Catton Park, near Derby, on Sunday. Preston has won three MSA titles but never the coveted BTRDA title so was elated to win having had a quiet year. Pre-event favourite, and reigning champion Dave Oliver finished a close second overall following a stunning afternoon but a minor car fire in the class cost him the hat-trick of BTRDA titles.

Derek Barnes won the new car class and the Silver Star finishing third overall, from Nigel Weeks who lead Oliver mid-way through the day. 2008 BTRDA Drive winner Julian Archard who has used Preston's Fiat 127 all year, and shared it at the championship final finished fourth overall and won the Bronze Star.

Barrie Parker won the front wheel drive class award, and Steve Courts the rear wheel drive class on a long days trialling of forty eight sections which started very slippery.
