Filtrate Trophy 2008

Date: 6th July 2008

Ilkley & District MC's historic Filtrate Trophy Car Trial ran on Sunday 6 July despite the intermittent drizzle, but most fortunately ahead of the thunderstorm that broke out just as competitors were heading home.   The site near North Rigton, south of Harrogate,  was interpreted well for the damp conditions, in which confidence and concentration would, as ever, be the winning formula. The 10 sections (run 4 times) were master-minded by "Mr Standard Car" Colin Valentine and in the main they conformed to expectations, but the re-starts for classes 3 and 4 were perhaps rather excessive in the conditions.   The event was to produce a much needed win for Neil Mackay in his regular Fiat Panda, despite an unexpected and unusual running repair!  Not even the wide sections could tempt Neil to start a climb after his driver's door jammed open mid-way through the second round!  Fortunately Garry Preston was on hand to effect the necessary repair (door off, remove broken spring from lower hinge void, door on again - and it shuts better now!) and keep Neil in the thick of the action on what turned out to be one of his best ever performances - complete with lowest marks lost for good measure!  This award was destined to go to Imp driver Dave Oliver, until engine misfires necessitated a visit to the paddock to change spark plugs.
