The fine weather in North Wales on 15 April failed to attract large entries to this established event, a round of the BTRDA®, MSA, and ANWCC PCT championships. Nevertheless, the entry list did comprise an interesting mix of cars and competitors.
The 7 entries in class A were all Fiats, save for Les Andrew's Peugeot 104. Perhaps predictably, the class was to yield the event winner, although with the intensely competitive Andrew, Holmes, Mackay and Preston combo, it was not necessarily the case - and if it was - which one? In the conditions the winner was going to be the driver making no mistakes and this accolade went to Garry Preston (Fiat 127) who achieved a near perfect score for the event.
Class B featured a Polo and Peugeot 205, the latter driven by seasoned competitor Dave Thomas to finish comfortably ahead of Paul Cross.
Class C became a class of one after Harvey and Buchanan suffered breakdowns and retired their Fiat X19 and Mazda MX5 respectively, handing the class to Malcolm Brown (Westfield).
Bad luck also struck class D when John Ludford's Marlin broke its diff on the first hill of the day. The class looked to be going OK for John Davies (Reliant SS1) but difficulties on one hill in the afternoon forced him to 2nd behind Nigel Griffith (Nova).
Clerk of the course Pete Dale had worked hard to achieve a balance of competitive sections that became cleanable after the moisture had come out of the ground, and we look forward to returning to the venue near Prestatyn in September.
