Loughborough Autotest
Date: 6th September 2009
It was BTRDA Drive Winners 1st Autotest of the year. Unfortunately, due to a family emergency, Graeme could not make it. Sophie was in the new road going class in the usual BTRDA drive Nissan Micra.
Between this and the last event the Micra has undergone some changes such as a new engine kindly supplied and fitted by Humphris Oxford because the old engine had a small smoking problem.
Following StuntdriveUK training earlier on in the year, Sophie was looking forward to the new discipline but was apprehensive about what the day may entail.
Been faced with three different test sites to memorise was an added complication. During the two Solo's Sophie had had one and two tests to learn at any one point which were numbered to help. Faced with a sea of cones learning the exact route was crucial imagining what direction you would be travelling at any one point, which even involves walking backwards!
Sophie put her training into good use and progressed steadily through the day, taking up to 10secs off her previous times on each test. It was a very steep learning curve for Sophie however despite this she thoroughly enjoyed her day and was still grinning at the end. Adrenaline had taken over possible, as it had been a very physical day!!
