FTD number 3 for Stephen Wild as Alastair Moffat breaks gearbox linkage
Added: 10th May 2009
After the first round of 3 tests it looked as if it was going to be the expected close competition bewteen the rwd ABS Freestyle and the fwd mini special of current Gold Star champion Alastair Moffat. The difference was just 0.2 sec in favour of Stephen but all that changed when the gear linkage of the mini special expired on Test 4 and that was the end of the main challange. Richard Pinkney took up the contest but was only able to beay Stephen on 3 of the further 15 tests and in the end it was a comforatable win by 16.1 sec for Stephen and more importantly 20 points for the 2009 demon tweeks Gold Star championship.
Duncan Wild wasa further 15.1 sec behind Richard and then came 5 more sportscars. The most surprised of them was Ben Morten who has only just returned from his round world trip and he got back into autotesting with a fine performance to come in 5th overall, a mere 1.0 sec behind his father Stephen.
There were the odd wrong tests during the day and one competitor who was glad of the additional 6th round was Lee Valentine in his Class B nova. Up until then he had been chasing Andrew Egger to recover the maximum he had on test 3 and at the end of the 18 tests they were tied on times, Lee only taking the class win by being fastest on Test 1. it was a brilliant drive by Andrew who was chasing Allrounders points on this event.
There was also a return to form for Howard Everingham in Class A for minis where for the first time this season he got in front of Rob Rolston. Getting better and better by the event is Dave Evans in his own modified 2 litre Blitz special who finished 3rd in Class D and a top 10 place.
Lloyd Bass was the only Road Going saloon car entry and running on the day in Class B he put up some good times.
